This course provides students with essential knowledge and understanding of the underlying philosophy, key characteristics, strengths and limitations of different service delivery approaches and models used in Aotearoa New Zealand. Students will also develop practical care skills and gain workplace experiences to apply a relevant person-centred care model, promote empowerment and advocacy, and challenge discriminatory behaviour in a healthcare setting.

This course provides students with the knowledge and fundamental skills required to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and healthcare services environment, contribute to a culture of professionalism and ethical practice, and apply reflective practice in a health care setting. Students will also learn ways to adapt and evaluate their contributions, behaviours and communication styles.

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to contribute to a culture of service quality, apply risk management plans and employ strategies to support cultural diversity in a healthcare setting. Students will further enhance their knowledge of routine infection control practices, and the impact of cultural diversity of communication practices in work environments.

This course provides students with knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology, common medical conditions and diseases, and physiological measurements required to perform routine observations and clinical tasks under the direction and delegation of a health professional. Students will also learn about the effects of ageing process on the body’s systems, medication administration, wound management, and urinary and bowel management in a health care setting.

This course enables students to integrate their healthcare knowledge and skills so as to develop a holistic approach to care for and support people with complex needs in a healthcare setting. Students will extend their understanding of their team role and responsibilities and build on their knowledge of anatomy and physiology and common health conditions to carry out clinical tasks and observations under the direction and delegation of a health professional. Students will also develop their personal care plan development skills.

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to demonstrate personcentred care and support to care recipients living with dementia in a healthcare setting. Students will learn about the physiology of dementia, the different types of dementia, co-existing health conditions, dementia-related behaviours and impacts of dementia on daily living. Students will develop attitudes, behaviours and skills essential for using a holistic approach when implementing personalised care strategies and safe support practice through the different stages of dementia.

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to demonstrate leadership and peer mentoring qualities, attitudes and behaviours in a healthcare setting. Students will learn about personal and peer leadership principles in terms of their roles and responsibilities, and their contribution to service through peer mentoring activities and strategies.
